Great Players Don't Miss Big Games

Nor do they give Salt and Pepper instructions as they are heading to the airport.

For most of us, it's all about team work; for others, not so much.

The Elkhorn's ended their 2007-2008 season on Sunday night while a few of the herd were grazing in BC.

"Probably the most disappointing loss in my 23 years as the Elkhorn GM" sighed Pete with a noticeable quiver in his voice. "I try hard to get the boys in shape and working together as a unit, but I have been let down by a group in individuals, they know who they are".

The GM also noted the value the absentees would have brought to the game if they chose. "They coulda changed the outcome for sure, not in scoring or defensively; even if I just put them on the odd time to let the stars get a breather!"

With the game tied at 1 apiece the "other team" scored with less than 10 seconds left.

Most organizations would crumble after seeing antics like this happen, not the Horns though. "We'll see 25 years and celebrate big time!" boasted the GM. "It is looking more and more like changes need to be made; I like what the Dolphins did in bringing in Bill Parcels to clean house, I am seriously thinking of getting Big Al to do the same".

The Dolphins have "The Tuna" and the Elkhorns just may have "The Sweater".

Game Notes:

- Ronny D blasted the shot of his career from the top of the circle to tie the game.
- Craig showed speed of days gone by twice in the game, and was still called a pylon.
- Randy sure can stop the puck on "D", 'nuff said.
- Rick D got kicked out and drew a penalty just as 3 Elkhorns were on a 3 on nothing!
-John played well, very well.

Apres Game Notes

- Bobby J showed his support for the Herd through another donation to the Elkhorn Liver Fund.
- Pete was last seen going to a party in the wee hours from the Jeffery's area while Craig skedaddled home.
- Many of the Horns were chatting at the table about each other's play, no one even mentioned Glen, Mark, Rick, or Nate, why would that be?

Antler Thanks:

-To Bobby J for a well run league.
-To Pete for ,,,ummm....well thanks anyway.
-To Randy for getting new shoes

Now it is time to work on other "racks" and not just the "Antler" type.

Not necessarily the Road to Perfection but....

He's no Eli Manning, but pretty much everything Hugh Caulk does is nearing perfection.

With the herd down on Super Bowl Sunday and drinking to do, Hugh decided to take things into his own hands.

"They got a few real lazy goals, and I was a little bit pissed about it, and the boys know that I can kick it up a notch at will, and I did!" remarked a humble Caulk. Hugh notched a few goals that even made Sweet Beaujolais green with envy!

A few Elkhorns got abandoned from the herd this day with both Pete and Glen doing the unthinkable, getting kicked out when their team needs them.

"After that we only had one spare, thank goodness we all back check and contribute the way we do" puffed a very tired Beaujie!

Glen decided to adjust a guys back with his stick and Pete was just plain snarley after binge drinking the night before. A quick shove got the Elkhorn GM out of the game early.

The Herd likes to keep Champagne on Ice as much as possible as wins come easily when Caulk plays.
The playoffs start on Friday night. Will Hugh be there, or will the Herd go without the most influential player the league has ever seen.

The only way to find out is to get your seats and watch the game!

Hopefully there will be Champagne on Ice and beers after the win!

Welcome Back!

If one reads the article from Mar 1, 1968, you will see similarities between the "Golden Jet" and the man they call "Jet Lag!"

Craig was "Welcomed Back" to the Elkhorn line up on Sunday night to the sounds of ridicule, admonishment, and the chants of "look at the size of that guy!" He is used to it, throughout his storied career he has faced adversity many times.

Well, the big man delivered with 3 goals and countless assists leading the Horns in 2 critical victories.

"Seriously though, when I saw him enter the room, inside I got this warm feeling, a feeling like we were all going to be taken care of", admired Peter, the Elkhorn GM.

"Mark was not there and we thought we may have a gap, but trust me, that guy getting his knee brace pulled off by Ron and Glen did a job out there".

Craig has been sidelined by a strained MLC which has forced him to sit on the sidelines for most of the season and spend more time at the MLCC.

"It finally feels stable, up until now it has been tough" indicated a very tired Craig after working hard all night. "It's good to be back, I don't like being on the payroll and not contributing like the team needs me to".

Playing with Nathan and Dave (Both Junior Elkhorns) was a great start to the "Franchise" Player's year. "I like playing with those guys, they really seemed to gel with me" touted Craig.

Goals of the night go to Rick Dees for a nice shot from the point, Ron D always seems to be there at the right time, and let's just say that Rick H seems to be on fire lately making opposing goalies look silly. And Tim, he got his fair share of hi lite film! "JK" was a rock in goal as usual. Kevin, hello, where are you?

Glen scored a "beaut" and Randy M continues to frustrate defenders, acquiring the occasional penalty along the way. Tough defensemen are not hard to find on this team.

The Horns fire it up next Sunday at 11 am, giving lots of time for liver stretches before the Super Bowl. Get your livers ready The Herd is coming to Smitty's and they are bringing hell with them!
